Just saw a teaser trailer for an upcoming "NEW" Sonic the Hedgehog game that will be coming to us in 2010. Something about going back to the roots...again, and that its gonna be in 2D. The trailer itself doesn't show much beside some fancy text, 3D rings, SFX and what appears to be Sonic depicted as a blue streak ala Saturday Sonic cartoon.

Can SEGA and Sonic Team really be serious this time? Will VERY disappointed Sonic fans get the Sonic game they've been wishing for ever since the craptastic "Next Gen" Sonic 06? I don't know...

On one hand I really do want a Sonic game that goes back to its roots, where you can pop it, sit down, and enjoy playing the game. On the other...it better not turn into another shitfest "Next Gen" Sonic game with YET ANOTHER Hedgehog or some weird relationship scenario >>.

Ya know, while on the Sonic topic, back in high school I actually planned out an idea for a new Sonic game. Inspired by Treasure's 2D sprite game called Silhouette Mirage, the graphics would of course be in 2D along with the backgrounds. Multiple paths to go through the zones, first time to use Sonic's plane in a semi-2D shooter, and many other stuff. Course...it all stayed on paper, never to see the day of light. Then comes Sonic Adventure...boy did my jaw drop to the ground when I read up on its features. If I were to compare it with my idea, I'd say it was....mmm...maybe 50 or 65% similar in terms of the idea, layout, etc. Guess that's why I loved Sonic Adventure .

Well that's enough of my rant. I hope for the sake of Sonic and friends (except Silver), Sonic Team does him and fans for once, justice. Oh yeah, here's the link to the article and teaser trailer.
